Hello friends and readers! I’m so excited to share this book review today. I got to work on this book last year. Yes, we are talking today about The Wildlife Divas Adventure Team: Saving the Endangered Mountain Gorilla by Lisa M. Randolph. This is a fantastic middle-grade read for your local animal lover. Let’s go!
Rating: 5 Stars
Synopsis
Ravenswing Academy is proud to announce their super smart Wildlife Divas Adventure Team. Cherie, their instructor and leader, proudly presents this team of young, bright girls:
Ebony — A popular and pretty artist and social media savvy Diva
Kyloni — A petite teen and aspiring scientist with a ginormous vocabulary
Valerie — A girl comfortable with Tech; not quite comfortable with people
Yalani — A budding engineering expert and future skateboarder extraordinaire
Storm — A brilliant, bug loving, math whiz kid, sharp, and quick girls; It’s all in her name
Cherie and the Wildlife Divas go on the trip of a lifetime: fly to Uganda to save critically endangered mountain gorillas. They will use Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) to complete their first international mission. But what happens when their trek is interrupted by poachers?
THE WILDLIFE DIVAS ADVENTURE TEAM: Saving the Endangered Mountain Gorilla is the first of many adventures with the Wildlife Divas. The Divas prove that Black girls are smart, creative, and always up for international adventure. Their first stop… Africa!
What I Enjoyed
I must give a shoutout to the art. Each chapter begins with a little illustration and they’re SO cute. You’ll have to check out the cute baby gorillas!
But more importantly, let’s talk about this cast of girls—you can tell in the synopsis that each girl has their own dynamic personality. I’m personally an Ebony through and through. Kids of all ages will likely find a character they love and root for.
This read also depicts girls from tough backgrounds who learn to work together to complete a real project. Readers can learn about real people who dedicate their time to saving endangered gorillas. It was very refreshing to see kids lead unabashedly and truly save the day.
My Final Thoughts
Randolph provides effortless fun and education. Kids and educators alike will love the adventure, tech, and brilliant plans inside. I, among others, am excited for their next global adventure.
Hopefully, I shared enough to pique your curiosity. Want to get reading? If so, I highly recommend you look up Lisa M. Randolph on social media:
