Here we have yet another Weekend Writing Warriors snippet! I’m just one of many writers participating in this blog hop, involving posting an 8-sentence snippet of my current project, so don’t forget to click on the link to see what everyone else is up to!
And this time I’m fulfilling my promise to bring something more dialogue heavy to the table! This scene takes place earlier in the story, at the dig site Rebbekah is overseeing when we are first introduced to her and John (and where they’re first introduced to each other). Here they’re coming to a decision that’s going to set them on a path that may just save the world as we know it.
“I’m going to find out what’s inside!”
“What? Rebbekah, that’s insane! You’re the archaeologist here, the professional, aren’t you supposed to be the one keeping the rest of us from doing that kind of stupid thing? What’s going on here?”
“Look, Jonathan,” she spread her hands, looking at the tunnel before meeting his gaze, “There’s a reason for this. If you knew the circumstances, you’d understand…and I’ll explain if I have to, but I’d rather not. Can you just trust me?”
The dialogue and discoveries that follow are pretty fun to, so expect to see some of that turned into snippets in the future! Check out other snippets here. And don’t hesitate to comment below if you’ve got an “informal” snippet to share as well! Until next time!
It’s so hard to trust when you feel uncertain about the person in charge, and yet… I do hope Jonathan can give Rebbekah the space to prove herself here. Sounds like it might even save their lives….
Too true, Eden. That trust definitely comes as these two tackle all the challenges thrown at them. Hopefully it will feel like a natural progression in the end!
I wonder how many times that little phrase “trust me” has been tested to the limit? I can’t wait to see what fate throws at our heroine!
Great snippet! I loved Jonathan’s remark about Rebekkah being the reasonable one. Now, will he be able to trust her or not?
