Here we have yet another Weekend Writing Warriors snippet! I’m just one of many writers participating in this blog hop, involving posting an 8-sentence snippet of my current project, so don’t forget to click on the link to see what everyone else is up to!
These lines come from a letter Rebbekah receives fairly early, one of her first tip-offs that everything is not as it seems…
Rebbekah,
If you are reading this now, something has prevented me from deleting it. I wish I could regale you with exciting details about our work here, but I will tell you only what matters. I have seen the field of fulgurites. It is too large to seem natural, and our samples suggested that, however impossible, it was formed underwater. We have connected it with a site in Debert, an ancient village that was destroyed in a fire.
More important here is Sinclair. He arrived knowing far more than he should have. He is looking for things Rebbekah.
If you’ve read past snippets, this isn’t the first time fulgurites have come up, but if you’re seeing this for the first time, a fulgurite is also called “petrified lightning,” something that happens when lightning strikes sand under the right conditions, melting it and leaving behind a unique glass formation. Hope you enjoyed! Check out other snippets here. And don’t hesitate to comment below if you’ve got an “informal” snippet to share as well! Until next time!
