Time for another Weekend Writing Warriors snippet. Every Sunday, I join a bunch of writers through a blog hop and post an 8-10 sentence snippet of my current project. You can click on the link to see what everyone else is up to.
I burned through a lot of work during the month of November. Here’s a scene that I love to revisit. After being told what to do and having her life threatened, Princess Karachi thinks she’s found a way to be in control. The question is, to who’s benefit?
In the silence she heard a loud, rhythmic whooshing sound which sounded like the wings of a large creature; she gathered her robe close around her and edged close towards her window.
Suddenly, two dark figures jumped and landed atop her large balcony. They crept silently towards the princess and bowed deeply and she returned the bow with one herself. She looked beyond the figures, two young soldiers, to see another two others astride a large dragon, silver and twinkling in the moonlight. The princess smiled, revealing a pair of snow boots on her feet under her nightgown.
Just then, her door broke down and guards rushed in to attack. Karachi ran towards the window and the soldiers swiftly lifted her to safely straddle the dragon’s back between the four soldiers. She gripped excitedly to the person in front of her, as the guard behind her made sure she was secure before they lifted up and away from the balcony. She looked down at her dark, gloomy castle and the guards yelling at her from below, then smiled at the guard behind her.
“I have been waiting,” Karachi breathed.

Yay! Love dragon rides. And it sounds like Karachi was definitely ready for one.
Action packed snippet! Who doesn’t love a good dragonriding story 🙂 ?
What a delightful way to escape – on a silver dragon! But, I suspect it will not be so easy.
Man, there is a lot going on in this snippet. I loved the line about snow boots and a nightgown.
Ooh, a kidnapping? A victim-assisted kidnapping even. Loving it! 🙂
