Hey, everyone! Time for another Weekend Writing Warriors snippet. Every Sunday, I join a bunch of writers through a blog hop and post an 8-10 sentence snippet of my current project. You can click on the link to see what everyone else is up to.
This week’s post continues Gilly’s story. After she flees the ambush on Althod, she has to get to the Elven camp immediately to deliver the items she was meant to steal back from Althod. But how can she pull that off when a mass of misfit Animen followers want to follow? Here’s a glimpse at a minor pitstop and more into the Animan lifestyle.
You have quite the following, a large Animan stag said in her mind as he approached her and nodded his grand head towards the unnatural collection of beasts. There’s an Animan haven close by.
Thanks, friend. Gilly nodded from the air and let the way.
With haste, word-thoughts circulated and everyone moved with renewed energy. Once they arrived a few hours later, Gilly felt like she was the one most relieved for its existence.
There were long rows of brown and dark green tents that matched the surroundings. As soon as Gilly’s party caught sight of them, many headed to the tents where shelter and clothing waited for them. Gilly and the hundreds of those who could change at will soon took on their human form; altogether they doubled the haven’s current population easily.
This is meant to take care of those who have nothing; in exchange, one must leave something behind for the next brother or sister, the stag explained.
Being an Animan is not the easiest way to live, but it’s manageable with a community behind you. If you’re curious, check out other snippets here. You can also learn more about the novel, Destiny Seeker, here. Don’t forget to comment below if you’ve got a snippet to share as well! Compliments and constructive insight are equally welcome.
I hope she’s brought enough donations to cover all the borrowing they’re doing. Sounds like she’s going to be hard-pressed to reach her destination unnoticed with such a big fan club!
Right? Can’t pull a dine-and-dash! Thanks for your comment.
