Time for another Weekend Writing Warriors snippet. Every Sunday, I join a bunch of writers through a blog hop and post an 8-10 sentence snippet of my current project. You can click on the link to see what everyone else is up to.
Where we last left off, Christoph has decided to finally visit Lotte after letting her stew in silence for a few months. Before this snippet, he mainly uses his time to taunt her and rub it in that he has every advantage in the world. After teasing her for long enough, Lotte finally learns something she doesn’t already know.
“I’m not discardable,” he said, appearing at my side. “If there’s anyone you should be angry with, it’s yourself for giving yourself away. You magic-nixers should know better than to cross the likes of me.” I wanted to laugh. In fact, I did; I scoffed because I had no idea what a magic-nixer was, or why I should feel guilty for being one.
“Don’t pretend you don’t know what a magic-nixer is,” he scoffed. “Your mind is not safe from me.” Oh wonderful—so now he can read minds.
I really have no idea what you’re talking about, I thought specifically, hoping to communicate my dissatisfaction. I still don’t even know why you cursed me.
Up until now, we haven’t learned anything about magic-nixers, so maybe next week we’ll learn more about what they actually are. Until next time, check out other snippets here. You can also learn more about the novel, Speechless, here. Don’t forget to comment below if you’ve got a snippet to share as well! Compliments and constructive insight are equally welcome.
Ooh, magic nixers sounds intriguing! I enjoyed their conversation…nit: maybe don’t use a distinctive word like ‘scoffed’ twice in such close proximity. But I enjoyed the snippet1
Ooh, good eye as usual, Veronica!
Loved the dialogue in this confrontation. Wonder if he has the capacity to back it up? Great work! 😀
Knowing him, he’d probably be an open book just to try and impress her. He doesn’t have much of a poker face.
Tricky girl- now I’m curious to see if he really can read her mind. And find out what a magic-nixer is.
That’s the tricky thing about snippets–have to wait until next week. 😉
That’s quite the levelheaded thing to say in your head if you think someone can read your mind!
Yeah, I’d be sending some expletives his way if it were me!
Love the power play going on here. She has a cool head for sure!
Definitely a cooler head than mine!
Well, I assume a magic-nixer is someone who can cancel out other people’s magic. I can’t wait to find out whether he can read the thoughts she’s sending his way. I’m betting “Yes”.
Good deduction!
Magic nixer? Oh, that doesn’t sound like anything good! Yikes!
